Rather than having a website i've decided on having a blog for my self promotion, mainly because im rubbish with websites, im completely clueless with how to design them. Ive kept the blog very simple and to the point, having taken all all the usual features on blogger so the site looks as professional as possible.

Before i complete my blog i thought it best to check out websites that are functional and easy to navigate around. One think i've learnt with design is its easy to design something in your own bubble but once someone else looks at your work it becomes clear that its only yourself that understands the work. Having that awareness of other people and understanding your target audience is key to potentially successful design. Well with this in mind i though it best to look at other peoples websites to see how functionality works online.

The above sites are all functional by the fact they are simple, nothings there that doesnt need to be. All important links are put together, whether across the top of the page, or aligned to the left or right which makes it easy to navigate. The sites are to the point, very quickly the viewer knows what the website is about and any information they require is easy to get to. With these facts in mind i want my blog to be based on the same elements.

It's that time of the year, PPD presentations!! Right think its best to bullet point what i'd like to cover in my presentation, it seems best to do this chronologically through my year and show my thought process....

-Entering the year with a problem..Me as a Designer, Me as a Teacher.

-Throughout the year I've seen different School projects and I've used these as starting briefs for my own design work (show examples)

-Placement, St.Bedes and Prince Henrys, pros and cons. What i've learnt from the placements, lesson structure etc.

-Interview process, first, second interview. What was needed for them (stimulating start t lesson)? What was asked in interviews?

-Requirements now i have a place, CRB, Medical, Degree.

-Structure of next year.

-How i would like to apply myself to teaching as a designer? Projects?

Taking my business card ive begun applying it to letterheads and eventually, website, compliment slips etc
Prefer having the logo on the back of the card rather than under the type. I feel both sides are separate designs and deserve their own space.

Designing a logo to represent myself and these are the current outcomes. The two directly above are based on the type which im using for the front, slick looking and geometric. However the two at the top i think are more interesting as these directly look at geometric shapes which a lot of the typefaces ive created this year do. It also has a interesting contrast with the type as they oppose each other in weight.
Using Geosans light I've created the front of my business card. keeping everything aligned to the right and left has given focus to the type as we are drawn into it. I think it also reflects how a lot of my practice revolves around type and layout.
Thinking about business cards and the typeface i want to use that basically needs to represent me. For a start it needs to be sans serif, modern, fresh, making me look current. Looking at the above i like the fourth one down, a light weight, organic look to it which is simple and to the point, which i think represents a lot of my work

Above are a selection of the products i have worked on with students at my placement at Prince Henry's. The School offers pupils from GCSE onwards the opportunity to be creative over their designs and consider the materials they use. As we can see above they do this well and push their designs and experiment with materials. The material side has been as useful to me as the pupils, allowing me to understand the properties and usages of materials.

Looking at other peoples business cards, mainly at ones that are just simple with simple concepts which essentially is what im going to want for my business cards.

Above is a questionaire asking about my subject knowledge which needs completing for the interview.

Fantastic news, i have a second interview. This interview is going to be HAARRRD. Formal interview, observed in a lesson, take a object for a stimulating start of a lesson...
For the object im going to take the brief i've done for wood joints as this will demonstrate that i'm taking the placement into my own practice.
